Bob the Killer

(Published on 14. June 2025, 04:33 by mellowrobinson)

This is a sequel to my second published puzzle, but this time with Killer lines instead of cages. Thanks to everyone on discord that tested this one. :)

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Draw 9 orthogonally connected regions in the grid, each containing the digits 1-9.
  • Region borders divide each line into exactly two segments. A line must not exit and re-enter a region. Black dots sit on region borders.
  • Digits on a line do not repeat, and sum to the attached total, if given.
  • On a black dot, one of the digits is double the other.

Solution code: Column 5, top to bottom, with a / between region borders

Brilliant! Loved all the little bits of line logic in the region finding phase, then some solid sudoku to finish it out.

The break in to place the first digit after (mostly) finishing region building was quiet challenging for me, but extremely rewarding! Very smooth after that. Fantastic puzzle!

That first digit is a real doozy! Thank you for solving, cherryhaunt! ♥

This is a spectacular puzzle. It is so good, I had to register an account just so I can leave a comment. The region drawing is quite challenging but approachable. The solving is smooth as butter in a pan. Brilliant!

Absolutely brilliant puzzle. Quite tough. But a great narrow path to the solution. Very satisfying.

Thank you rameshsrivats for solving and for the kind comment! :) I'm glad the solve path didn't have any workarounds.

Is it regarded as exiting and re-entering a region if, for example, r1c3 and r2c4 belong to the same region while r1c4 belong to another region

- hi SparkNights. Your example is valid and not considered exiting and reentering. You can think of it like a region sum line in an irregular grid.
Thanks
