Sudoku Variants Series (428) - Eight Lines

(Published on 13. June 2025, 08:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a unique Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Eight Lines
Apply classic sudoku rules.
Each line consists of one or more contiguous groups of digit(s), each of which sum to 8. These groups of cells cannot overlap. Digits may repeat on lines and within sums. Example of a valid line: 5218116 (521 | 8 | 116).

Inspiration for this type comes from Flinty.

Solve online in Sudokupad.

Solution code: Column 1.

I kept getting stuck at the end of this puzzle. After many attempts, the longest combination for 8 helped me.

Amazing puzzle! I broke it - so I thought. It took quite a long time until I realized that there was just one more possible 8-combination… Thank you very much for creating and sharing this beautiful piece.

Smooth but not to be solved in a hurry due to some tricky sums. Thanks

Reply: on WCPN the puzzles are published in an increasing difficulty during the week. A lot of SVS's are among the harder puzzles on our site, but this one was considered easy enough by our difficulty-checkers to be published on a Thursday. :)
