Reversing Valve (Dynamic Fog Edition)
(Published on 4. June 2025, 15:56 by ViKingPrime)
PUZZLE:
RULES:
Normal
SUDOKU rules apply.
The value of cells within a
KILLER thermostat must sum to the number in the top-left corner (if given); digits may not repeat in a thermostat but values may.
The value of cells along a
THERMOMETER must strictly increase from bulb to tip.
There are nine (9)
HOT cells contained within the grid comprised of a set of the digits 1-9. Each row, column and box contains exactly one Hot cell. There are nine
COLD cells contained within the grid following the same rules as the Hot cells. A cell may have only one of these roles. The value of a
Hot cell is one more than the contained digit; and the value of a
Cold cell is one less.
INTRODUCTION:
So as an excuse to experiment with Dynamic Fog rules for the first time, I decided to remaster an older puzzle of mine. It had a few tougher steps towards the end that — if Dynamic Fog had existed at the time — would have been telegraphed to the solver in a much clearer way.
It turns out that Dynamic Fog is a lot of fun to work with! I'm excited to give it a try in future puzzles.
Credit for the modifier constraint goes to
brennan77, who created something quite approachable. I think this ruleset in particular is a wonderful introduction to solvers who might be new to modified cells.
Have fun!

Most of it was smooth but a bit tricky towards the end. Wonderful puzzle. Thanks!

I hadn’t done the original but I really liked this version. Tough for me to spot the first digit but was lovely and smooth after that.
