Simply Killer

(Published on 25. May 2025, 00:14 by EnPee)

I realised that in my puzzles, I've mostly been trying to create logic using elaborate rulesets. So, I've set myself the goal of creating better puzzles based on one standard rule. This time it's killer sudoku.

Happy solving!

Rules

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Digits do not repeat within a cage and sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage.

Wow! I normally find plain killer sudokus to be boring, but I trusted the rating and solved this one anyway. It's one I'm sure would have Simon squealing "this is gorgeous!"

The way the logic bounced symmetrically around was so satisfying, and the way I resolved the set of digits in one of the cages near the end of the solve was both novel and simple and will be a standard trick in my bag for killer cages from now on.

Amazing!

Beautiful but the beginning not one for beginners so once again grading becomes a thing

- Definitely, the beginning is much harder than the end. I'm glad you enjoyed solving it!

- Thank you very much!

Found the middle harder than the beginning. Around 2.5* total for me. You succeeded in creating a high quality pure puzzle. Thx for sharing.

- Thanks for solving and for the kind comment :)

this puzzle illustrates why describing the difficulty with ONE number is often misleading.
beginning:3, middle:2, end:1 is needed here. of course, if you can't get past the beginning, the other two numbers don't matter.

- Often, my puzzles turn out like this where the beginning is more difficult than the end, maybe there should be 3 difficulty numbers for beginning, middle and end! Thanks for solving, hope you enjoyed it :)

- It does indeed! Thank you :)
