Too Wise To Woo Peaceably

(Eingestellt am 22. Mai 2025, 04:11 Uhr von NotSoMagnifique)

I'd played with a parity line split apart for my puzzle Defying Gravity, and I decided to revisit the concept, this time to reference Beatrice and Benedick from Shakespeare's comedic classic, "Much Ado About Nothing". Beatrice and Benedick may enjoy their verbal sparring, but in the end, they have more in common than they realize!

Rules:

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Beatrice - along the lady Beatrice's thin purple line, digits alternate between odd and even and may not have a value greater than 6.

Benedick - along Signor Benedick's thick red line, digits alternate between odd and even and may not have a value less than 4.

XV sums - digits separated by an X sum to 10; digits separated by a V sum to 5. No negative constraint.

Difference Kropki dots - digits separated by a white Kropki dot are consecutive. No negative constraint.

My colouring went awry with the red and purple making it hard for my eyes, but I got it!

I did what I thought was the break-in, which was correct, but my logic (while sound) was based on a coloring error. Only realized that partway through, so this is a half-solve for me. Thank you!

Took me 3 attempts spread out over 3+ hours, but I got it. I kept messing up the odd/even coloring and breaking the puzzle. Thanks from one theatre nerd to another!

Still not sure I found what the trick was to break in, but got there in the end with 52:19

>>> NSM here - I'm sorry you were having trouble! I hope you still enjoyed it.

I did, thanks for setting it! It just stumped me in a way that 1* puzzles haven't for a while now, always more to learn.

Little coloring, a little Phistomofel and it's done! Thanks for sharing!

>>> NSM here - you know the funny thing? I wasn't even thinking of Phistomofel when I made this!

Nice machinics. Would be nice to see a harder version of this. It pretty much solved itself.

>>> NSM here - that's fair - I was testing a slightly different version, but my brain was stalling out on me, so I figured a slightly easier set-up might be appropriate.

This is a nice one. All in all it's quite easy but shows some interesting mechanisms within the rules. So it was a pleasure to solve. Thank you.
