Chaos Construction: Bread and Pie

(Published on 21. May 2025, 14:39 by Myxo)

This is one of my favourite puzzles I have made, which also appeared in the amazing puzzle pack Sliced Sudoku (free to download). Enjoy!

Rules:

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into regions of 9 orthogonally connected cells each, such that every cell is part of exactly one region. Place the digits 1-9 exactly once in each row, column and region.

Sandwich: Brown clues to the left and above the grid are Sandwich clues. They indicate the sum of the digits between the 1 and 9 in that row or column. In rows and columns that have a Sandwich clue, all the digits between the 1 and 9 must be in the same region, and the 1 and 9 must not belong to that region.

Pie: All regions that do not touch the edge of the grid are Pie filling. Black clues below the grid indicate the sum of the digits within Pie filling in that column.

Solution code: row 2 from left to right, - for region borders

Brilliant puzzle! As said by everyone else: the break-in is fantastic. Thank you

Superb puzzle. The two break-ins at the start were so satisfying, and then there's some wonderful logic after that. It was never brutally hard, just nice and challenging. Thanks for making an absolute masterpiece!

This makes me wish I wouldn't have given 5 stars for quality to other puzzles so readily. Straight up one of the best puzzles I've ever solved. Both unique and flawlessly executed.

It is a shame that "very nice" has become the default rating for puzzles on the portal, because this one deserves distinction. Such a great idea that was brilliantly executed.

Very tasty, thanks!

This one had some very satisfying deductions. Up there with some of the best CC's and had a really nice balance of difficult but not brutal. Now I want pie...

After a very straightforward break-in, a second major deduction led to a very very satisfying solve. Beautiful CC construction. A million thanks for sharing this.
