blue lining white trenchcoat

(Published on 19. May 2025, 00:24 by aqjhs)

Ever since solving DubiousMobius's Entropical Pairadise I had this kind of ruleset in my mind. Scojo launched a prompt to make monochromatic puzzles with an assigned hue, and i had blue, so it was the perfect occasion to deploy this ruleset. Hope you like it.

  • Divide the grid into ten orthogonally connected regions and place the digits 0 to 9 once each in every row, column and region.
  • Cells marked with arrows, regardless of color, show the combined count of all the cells in its region that are seen in the direction of the arrows (including itself). Region borders do not break arrows sight.
  • Cells marked with the same shape (circles or squares) have different digits and belong to different regions.
  • Region borders split each blue line into components with the same sum. That same sum may differ between different lines. No blue line is completely inside one region.
  • Two blue arrows on a cell with a digit D point to two cells D spaces away in the direction of the arrows and the digits on those cells are in the same residue class modulo D. Not all possible pairrows (pairs of arrows) are given.
Note: two numbers are in the same residue class modulo D when they have the same remainder when divided by D.

When scanning for arrows to deduce modulo class, the "1's" weirdly keep distracting. Nice. Thanks

Such a fun puzzle. Rule set took a bit to get my head around but once I did it all eventually fell neatly and satisfyingly into place.

There's a lot to keep track of, and at times I stalled simply because I had lost track of a certain clue but once I looked at it said "that was obvious". But it never felt to me like I wasn't going to figure it out, just needed to be patient (as is usually the case with 5 star CC puzzles!). Felt very satisfying to get through it in the end. Very nice!

The concept is fun but the ending was tiring and tedious.
