Celtic Path (Yin Yang, Path & Shading Arrows) (with AnalyticalNinja)

(Eingestellt am 4. Mai 2025, 21:36 Uhr von 99%Sneaky)

Intro:

First, I want to thank my co-setter and all-around great dude AnalyticalNinja for agreeing to join me in crafting this puzzle (our 3rd time working on a puzzle together), which has been 9 months in the making. Combining both our logical and creative styles was very enjoyable and we’re both quite pleased with the result! We would both like to give a special mention to our testers dumediat, ul-Rhymm & chrisj50 who provided great feedback as well as words of encouragement.

You can check out our previous collaboration "Kombucha" here! We also worked together on the large collab project "Gestalt" which you can find here.

Rules:

#1 Normal sudoku rules apply.
#2 Yin Yang: Shade some cells such that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected, all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected, and no 2x2 area is fully shaded or fully unshaded.
#3 While moving clockwise along the path, the digit in a shaded cell immediately followed by one or more unshaded cells indicates the sum of the unshaded cells following it. Digits may repeat in the string of unshaded cells if allowed by other rules.
#4 A digit in a cell with arrow(s) counts the total number of cells on the line in the indicated direction(s) which have opposite shading to the arrow cell itself.

Rule #4: the number shows the cells of different shading combined or separated?
----
Thanks for the question 9Rookienumbers. The number is the combined total for all directions pointed at by the arrows.

Absolutely brilliant puzzle! For me at least 4* difficulty. The specific shape of the cross in conjunction with the very original sum-rule lead to some beautiful logic. Take a bow and thank you for this beauty:)
