Fog Board Game

(Eingestellt am 2. Mai 2025, 15:15 Uhr von pagedo)

Normal Sudoku rules apply.
Snakes - green German Whisper lines - Adjacent digits along a Snake must differ by at least 5.
Ladders - orange Dutch Whisper lines - Adjacent digits along a Ladder must differ by at least 4.
Box borders divide the thin blue Region Sum lines into segments with the same sum.
Cells connected by a thin pink Renban line form a set of consecutive digits, in any order, without repeats.
Digits on the thin grey Palindrome lines read the same forwards and backwards.

Palindrome lines and Renban lines are no greater than 5 cells in length.

Where 2 or more different lines join, intersect or overlap in a cell all line constraints are applied.
Digits joined by an X sum to 10. Cells joined by a V sum to 5.
Digits joined by a white dot are consecutive. Cells joined by a black dot, one digit is double the other.
Not all Xs, Vs or dots are given.

Simulated Game Mechanic:

Where a dice face is shown, enter the dice value into the cell to progress to the next move revealing all the cells in that move except for the last cell.
The last cell of each move is hidden until all other revealed move cells are completed.
If the last cell of each move lands on the bottom of an orange ladder or the top of a green snake, the move cells revealed are extended to the top of the orange ladder or to the bottom of the green snake.
On completion of all the revealed move cells, the last move cell is revealed, showing the next dice face.

Solve with SudokuPad

NOTE: A German Whisper and a Dutch Whisper line are revealed at the last reveal. They are not necesssary for the solve. They are an asthetic to complete the look of the board - they can be used if you wish.

There are also one or two other constraints along the solve path that may not be strictly required. They enhance the solve flow, keep the focus on the solve path and reduce some of the fog pencil markings. Complete pencil marking will result in a solution revealing early at least 3 dice throws.

Pretty cool, though a little janky. It's effectively a dynamic fog puzzle with "any time you see a die, enter that number into its square." The rules are a little confusing to read in contrast.

Great flow, though I'll admit to using the whispers more than the dice mechanism!

I was wondering how did you make those custom visuals?

pagedo: @Azure - Visuals from Sudokumaker - Cosmetic Symbols - grid resolution 5, square is rectangle 60x60, dots are circles 5x5

If you either remove the bottom right green line or extend it 1 space (which is easily doable without changing the answer), then you can add a clue that all lines are at least 3 digits long. If you do that, it can be solved with only 6 of the 11 dice. As is, you can make a really good guess at the solution with only 6.

EDIT: The game mechanics are slightly broken. The 1 in box 3 should be a die. Then the large green line is also wrong. Either you should land on it where that 3 die is and have no die and nothing continuing up and then you slide down. And only 1 path to the bottom, with the other path cutting off 1 cell early. Or, cut that slide off you you never land on it until after the next die roll and then, same thing, it should be 1 path to the bottom with no green line above it. Either change would work without really changing the solve path or solution.

I also really like the idea of this game mechanic as a rule set. I'd love to see it incorporated as a constraint that you use to figure out the puzzle. Maybe if you don't have the fog, it is solvable with no numbers on the dice? (Provided fixing the game play as I said). Not sure if it would be, but you could probably have a puzzle where you need to follow a path through the game and figuring out that path is necessary to solve the puzzle, not just decoration along the way.

pagedo: @sfield - Thanks for pointing out the missing square on the grid 3 1 dice. Now fixed.

I'm not trying to get a solve path without using dice.

The game mechanic is not broken. The six dice lands onto the 1 dice which is hidden. Completing the 5 revealed cells shows the 1 dice. Entering a 1 shows the 3 dice. The 3 entered lands on the top of the grid 1 snake which extends the move cells down to the Grid 4 9th cell which is hidden until all the move cells are correctly filled revealing the next dice.
