(Published on 6. April 2025, 20:54 by 99%Sneaky)

Intro:

Very special mention to I Love Sleeping – Leeor and Heliopolix for their awesome testing, feedback and help with crafting the ruleset.

This is the introductory puzzle for a series of puzzles using this loop-drawing ruleset (Note: Rule #5 may differ between puzzles in the series). Good luck and enjoy your inaugural visit to the island of Taha'a!

Rules:

#1 Normal sudoku rules apply.
#2 Draw a nonintersecting loop in the grid. The loop travels orthogonally through the centers of cells and may not touch itself orthogonally (diagonal touching is allowed). The loop may not move through circles or the given digits.
#3 A digit in a circle is equal to 10 minus n, where n is the (up to 8) number of cells adjacent to the circle which the loop moves through. Each circle claims exactly one cell which is orthogonally adjacent to the circle. The claimed cell is not on the loop and contains the digit n. Two circles may not claim the same cell. Circles may or may not claim a given digit.
#4 The digit in the square counts the number of boxes in which the loop does not appear. The square may or may not be on the loop.
#5 The column number must appear on the loop somewhere in the column. The row number must not appear on the loop in the row. For example, 1 must be on the loop in column 1 and 7 must not be on the loop in row 7.
