Bishopsgate

(Published on 1. April 2025, 01:01 by cristophermoore)

Standard Sudoku rules apply. There is a bishop's constraint on the white squares of the checkerboard: the cells on each white diagonal are different. Cells connected by a V or X sum to 5 or 10 respectively. Cells connected by a white dot are consecutive.

Play on SudokuPad (Please note that playing in Dark Mode switches the white and black squares!)

Beautiful idea, masterfully executed. Very elegant bishop constraint, and most creative combination. Beautiful and impressive logic. I loved the XV interplay. Well done !!!

Cris: Thank you so much! I really appreciate it.

Amazingly fun puzzle!

Cris: Thank you! I hope this constraint catches on.

Hi Allegem! Bishopsgate works for me - although maybe specifying white/black is good, since a bishop on the black squares is also possible

Fun constraint! I’ve seen AntiQueen (functionally equivalent to AntiBishop) on the digit 9, on multiple known digits, on digits to be determined by the solver, and even on a certain shading of yin-yang, but I don’t think I’ve seen it based on checkerboard color. A full AntiQueen on all digits in a 9x9 is impossible, but this variation feels like a satisfactory substitute for global AntiQueen (or Bishop!) Would you like to give this constraint a specific name so that others can reference the original name in their own designs? :) (Bishopsgate is already a pretty great name for the constraint in my opinion! Shall we make it official?)
