Sum-Ban your Ren-Lines

(Published on 28. March 2025, 20:58 by meggen033)

This puzzle was made for the weekly Scojo Discord Prompt: This week the wheel has spun Renban and Region Sum Line! I thought I would be efficient and just combine the two constraints, something I have done before in my “Equal SumBans” series, where I combine renbans with equal sumlines. Check out the previous puzzles:

1.) Equal SumBans

2.) Smoke and Mirrors

3.) Can of Worms

4.) Crossing Sums

5.) Crossing Sums 2

6.) Counting Sums

7.) Sumtimes They Count

8.) Cross Sum Renbans

Solve with SudokuPad

• Normal Sudoku rules apply.

• Magenta lines are both Renban and Sum Lines.

• Renban: Digits placed on lines must be a non-repeating set of consecutive digits, in any order.

• Sum Lines: Box border divide the line into segments of equal sum.

Happy Solving and God Bless

Solve Time: 23:23

I rated this 3/5 difficulty.

This was another really nice puzzle! This is now the second puzzle in this series I have solved so far, and it was similarly very fun and had a comparable difficulty level. I really liked how the line crossing boxes 2/3 broke the symmetry and cracked the puzzle open for me - great job setting this one!

I think 3* is a fair difficulty rating, even though my solve time was a bit quicker than normal for 3/5 difficulty puzzles. This shorter solve time is largely a result of me having solved the "Sumtimes They Count" puzzle fairly recently, and having remembered the RSL/renban combo possibilities for the 2/2/3 segment lines (as well as having familiarized myself with the combined rules during that previous solve). If I had to re-work out the logic for the line possibilities (from scratch), it probably would have taken me a bit longer and fell within my average 3* solve time.

Similar to the other puzzle in the series I have solved, the rules worked together very nicely and the puzzle had a very fun solve path. The sorts of interactions between this puzzle's lines was very similar conceptually to that other puzzle I've solved, but obviously with different geometries. I've really enjoyed this combined ruleset so far, and I look forward to trying out the previous puzzles in the series as well as any additions you may create/share in the future.

Thanks again for sharing yet another fun puzzle!
