Pear Tree

(Published on 17. March 2025, 21:48 by jwsinclair)

Pear Tree, by James Sinclair

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Digits cannot repeat on the indicated diagonal.
The blue lines are clone lines: each line contains the same digits in the same relative positions.
The sum of the digits inside each cage is equal to the small number in the top left corner.
Digits in cells separated by a white dot are consecutive.
Digits in cells separated by a gold dot are *not* consecutive.

Edit: added a clue I had erroneously taken out during testing. Apologies to everyone who solved this already, the solve path was probably a lot more frustrating than I meant it to be.

Second edit: maybe I should offer a prize to whoever can find the solve path that does use the dots :)

Solution code: row 8

A pretty puzzle with lots of interesting interactions. Plus, any puzzle that gives me an excuse to color will always bring me joy.

Excellent puzzle! It was really interesting to find so many different relations between cells. I do not understand when I was supposed to use the gold dots. Thank you

Yes this felt mighty hard without the white kropki dot which by the way still doesn't appear in the screenshot on this page. I also didn't use the gold dots. However, the first half had some very nice steps. Thanks!

Thanks, it's updated now (thought I had done that when I made the change, not sure why it didn't take)

Very hard towards the end, but quite interesting. I didn't find a way to make the gold dots useful though. (White was not available yet)

I have to say I found this one a little trickier than your usual fare, but it was still a very nice construction!
