City in the Fog

(Published on 28. March 2025, 00:23 by fogpictures)

Solve with Sudokupad
After you have solved it, click here here to see the picture without numbers.

• Normal Sudoku rules apply.
• Adjacent digits along a Dark Blue German whisper line must have a difference of at least 5.
• Digits along a Grey line create a sumline where the sum of digits on a line within a particular 3x3 box must be the same for all the boxes the line passes through.
• Digits along a Purple Dutch line must have a difference of at least 4.
• Digits along each green thermometer must increase, starting from the bulb end.
• Cells with a filled yellow circle must be odd.
• Cells with a filled grey square must be even.
• Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left.
• A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio. A white dot between cells indicates cells with consecutive values.
• Not all dots are shown.
• A V between two cells means they add up to 5. You have to look carefully because sometimes only the smallest part of the bottom tip is showing.
• An X between two cells means they add up to 10.
• The board is covered in fog. Place a digit correctly and the fog will lift around it.

Solution code: Enter the digits in the last row.

Very bad colour scheme.

Tons to go on at every moment so hard to get stuck. Fun and relaxing!

The rules in the web still not correct. German whisper line is dark green,Dutch line is orange, sumline is blue. Some rules do not need to use in the soving.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I edited the description here to match the correct one on sudokupad. I am sorry that the unusual colour scheme was confusing. We will stick more closely to convential line colours next time.

I see a lot of comments below about issues with rules and yet there's still issues with the description here not matching sudokupad...also not sure why you chose such colors for the lines that don't match what is usually used (german whispers generally light green instead of dark, the region sum lines are way darker blue and larger than usual and made it very hard to see digits and pencil marks, etc.) which makes it way less accessible for colorblind people as noted below. Should just stick to conventions imo. Solve itself was smooth, felt like some clues were unnecessary but I didn't particularly do a stress test on that aspect

I really enjoyed this puzzle. Quite simple, but a lovely flow. I agree that some of the colouring affected the solve and the accessibility of the puzzle, but that’s probably a relatively simple fix?

The break-in took some time cause I missed the "V". After that it has been a pleasure. Thanks!

The green and orange lines are indistinguishable for me (colorblindness), so I had to guess which was which. And as mentioned, the description here is wrong (though it is correct on SudokuPad). Otherwise, enjoyable!

It is vItery difficult to read the numbers (especially the small centre digits) against the blue German Whisper line.

I agree with VeTaurus in that you are using very unconventional colour scheme, which does not add anything to the underlying image. Instead, I had to keep looking back at the instructions to see what the lines were meant to be.

‘A V between two cells means they add up to 5. You have to look carefully because sometimes only the smallest part of the bottom tip is showing.’—I believe there is enough of the ‘V’ visible not to warrant this warning. However, if you really think this is an issue, try using bigger ‘V’s.

For domino clues (e.g. X/V & kropki dots), consider including the sentence, “Not all … are necessarily given.” (sometimes puzzles omit the word necessarily, which does generate a negative constraint, and irritates me as a result).

That said, enjoyed your puzzle.

Nice GAS puzzle. But still there are mistakes in the description. German whisper is not blue, sumline not grey, Dutch whisper not purple, still little killer in the description.
Solving the puzzle according to the ruleset would break it with the first number (a 4 in the middle of a blue German whisper line).
Putting effort in creating a nice beginner puzzle and then confusing it with a wrong ruleset is somehow sad.
One further advise: thick lines make it difficult to read numbers on them. A little thinner would be better.

Thanks to everyone pointing out problems. The previous image on this page was from an early version of the puzzle. The white dot and little killer that was on that image are not meant to be clues. I added the description of black dots here.

Image was incorrect.

in fact to add on to m previous message, the black dot rule is missing from the actual sudoku and the little killer clue in the puzzle itself as well. I would advise to double check just in case anything else is missed for any new sudoku solvers as this does look someone begineer would enjoy

wasn't sure how to start it however i noticed thatthe white dot that is in the picture is not in the sudoku itself, i had to go back to this page to see the white dot

Solve Time: 6:09

I rated this 1/5 difficulty.

Neat approachable FoW puzzle!

As mentioned before by @haligonian, there are quite a few rules, but all of them are very common and use mostly standard notation - but overall the solve was nice & relaxing.

Thanks for sharing!

Not an overly difficult puzzle, but a relaxing jaunt through a whole bunch of clue types.
