Rules:
Fill the puzzle grid with numbers from 1 to 9. Each possible number may only occur once per row and column.
All the lowest and highest numbers (1 and 9) and all so-called ‘ghostly numbers’ are not given. Ghostly numbers stand within a row or column between a number with a lower value and a number with a higher value. All numbers already given are not ghostly numbers.
Examples, based on a puzzle grid with numbers from 1 to 9:
• In a sequence ‘5-6-8’, the 6 would be missing as a ghostly number.
• In a sequence ‘9-6-2-1’, the 6 and the 2 would be missing as ghostly numbers would be missing, as would the 9 and the 1 as the highest and lowest numbers respectively.
• In a sequence ‘5-6-2-4’, no number would be missing.
