Initial Setter Difficulty: 3/5
Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.
Dutch Flats
Every 5 in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.
Lockout Lines
Digits in the diamonds at the ends of a lockout line must differ by at least 4. Digits on a line must fall outside the range defined by their attached diamonds. Digits may repeat on the lines.
Please note that different line colours are purely used for line crossover clarity.
Hint to start
For what it's worth, the puzzle gets a full notch easier after the first few steps.
5s can never appear on the line, and happy 5s in Boxes 3, 6 and 9 are key.
Also don't forget that a 5 in Row 9 needs the 1 in Row 8, so don't waste that 1 where it can't be above a 5.
Special Thanks
We are still in this lovely run of collaboration setters that then become the following week's guest setter.
The next 2 weeks guests are:
- Collab Setter Crusader175, becomes next week's guest setter with a puzzle that's a 'limited' edition!
- And then series stalwart GoodCity will take things 'downhill'!
Previous Dutch Flat Mate Puzzles
I have removed the list of previous puzzles in the series, as I've noticed it is starting to affect the LMD search function. The plan is to eventually list the Dutch Flat Mates on a linked spreadsheet, and ideally edit the LMD pages of the older puzzle pages too. For what it's worth, this has been a weekly series since '18 Oct 23' and is the 74th consecutive Wednesday!
