Dutch Flat Mates (Telekinetic Kropkis)

(Published on 5. March 2025, 11:30 by Elytron)

I'm very honored to be this week's guest setter for Flinty's weekly Dutch Flat Mates Series, which you can find here! This puzzle uses Telekinetic Kropkis, which is a constraint I've recently had fun implementing into some puzzles.

Telekinetic Kropki Example

Solve it with SudokuPad.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.

  • Dutch Flat Mates:
    • Every 5 in the grid must have a 1 directly above it or a 9 directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

  • Telekinetic Kropkis:
    • If the digit n is in a cell with a white arrow, the digit n steps in the direction of the arrow must be consecutive with n.
    • If the digit n is in a cell with a black arrow, the digit n steps in the direction of the arrow must be in a 1:2 ratio with n.
    • Not all telekinetic Kropkis are necessarily given.

Solution code: Row 5 from left to right (9 digits).

An excellent addition to the Dutch Flat Mate series thank you so much. For those checking out the comments section, it's well checking Elytron's other puzzles using the constraint, they deserve far more plays than they are getting.

Terrific puzzle! When I started the solve, I was afraid I could miss how the Telekinetic Kropkis are to be used. But that anxiety was quickly blown away by the smoothest solve path one could hope for. This easily becomes one of my favourite DFM puzzles. Thank you, Elytron!
