anterograde syncopation

For one of Scojo's prompts the task was to pick a constraint and team up to create mashup puzzles. I teamed up with DubiousMobius to create some puzzles using mod-length region sum lines.

One of them is vestiges of an epicyclic castle a castle wall type loop building puzzle. And this one is a deconstruction puzzle, partly inspired by Jay Dyer's Jörmungandr.

  • Deconstruction rules: Place nine non-overlapping 3x3 regions on the grid and place the digits 1-9 in them so that they don't repeat in rows, columns and regions. Cells outside regions don't contain any digit.
  • All lines (red or blue) are mod-length region sum lines:
    • Region borders split the line into connected components.
    • Inside regions, cells on a component of length N with a digit D have a value equal to the remainder of D divided by N. (If D is a multiple of N then the cell has value equal to 0.)
    • All components inside regions have the same value sum along the line, but that same value sum may be different for different lines. Lines may be entirely inside one region, or may not enter any region at all.

Pretty incredible puzzle, as usual. The decon + modularity + RSL was a spectacular variant interaction and, like always, you employ some of the best puzzle aesthetics. Beautiful solve with beautiful logic, i highly recommend this one. Thank you!!

Loved how different lengths of the blue line had certain properties. What an amazing concept!

Tough but very interesting. The construction part is very cool (3*). The sudoku part is much more difficult (5*). The logic of those lines is beautiful.
Very well done.
