(Published on 18. December 2024, 11:30 by Flinty)

Previous Dutch Flat Mate Puzzles
This has been a weekly series since '18 Oct 23'. Here is a spreadsheet link for all the previous puzzles in the series, which also has a few teasers for upcoming constraints/guest setters in the series (subject to change).

This alternative link offers a limited LMD search for Dutch Flat Mates.

Initial Setter Difficulty: 3/5

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.

Dutch Flats
Every 5 in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

Full File Kropki
Clues in a white circle indicate the exact number of white, Difference of 1, Kropki dots in their respective rows and columns.
Clues in a black circle indicate the exact number of black, Ratio 1:2, Kropki dots in their respective rows and columns.

Optional hint to start

The White '7' clue only has two possible fills (because of Flat Mates). Using other clues quickly forces one of the options.

Example Image:
This demonstrates the puzzle rules, with the 'discovered' kropkis visible in their respective positions to hopefully aid understanding.
- Three black, Ratio 1:2, Kropki dots in Row 1.
- Three black, Ratio 1:2, Kropki dots in Row 2.
- Six white, Difference of 1, Kropki dots in Row 3.

I found the break-in pretty easy, but then some tricky and a bit tedious what-if exercises to make the final couple of key deductions before the rest of the puzzle filled itself in with Sudoku. Maybe I missed something simple.

Very nice puzzle with a good flow after the break in. Love the fact that this series episode covers another unusual ruleset.

Great puzzle and fresh logic with some quite tricky deductions in mid-solve. I can imagine this was tough to set. Thanks!
