(Published on 20. November 2024, 10:30 by Sotehr)

PUZZLE

RULES

Sudoku: Normal Sudoku rules apply; place the digits 1-9 once in every row, column, and 3x3 box.

Same Difference Lines: Adjacent digits along a gray line have the same difference.

Sandwich: Numbers outside the grid are the sum of the digits sandwiched between the 1 and the 9 in that row or column. Values must be determined by the solver.

NOTES
Expected Difficulty: 4 stars

This was set for Scojo's Setting Saturday Prompt, this week chosen by Scojo himself: Inside Out, where clue types that usually remain inside the grid go outside of the grid, and values outside the grid become a standard type of outside clue.

I deactivated this puzzle a while ago due to the comment below, but recently went back and did a rigorous test-solve of it. In my opinion, this puzzle does not require bifurcation or excessive case-checking, however if you fail to ask the right logical question then indeed that may be the only way forward -- as with all puzzles.

This puzzle features a number of very sophisticated small steps, but some of them require so much case-testing they're borderline - if not outright - bifurcation. I'm astonished so many people have solved it.
