Six Rooms

(Eingestellt am 20. Dezember 2023, 04:35 Uhr von marty_sears)

I absolutely loved Zetamath's Nine Rooms, and ever since solving it I've wanted to make this mini 6x6 version. It was surprisingly tricky to find a legal solution that obeyed the rules; it kept on breaking again and again, evading me. But I finally found a solution, and happily it was one that allowed for a solve path that included everything I wanted to include. I hope I've managed to do justice to Zetamath's brilliant ruleset, and maybe even added a couple of little twists too.

Rules:

  • Divide the grid into six 2x3 boxes. It must be determined whether these are horizontal or vertical.
  • Fill the grid with the digits 1-6, so that digits don't repeat in a row, column, or box.
  • The boxes are numbered 1-6, in reading order from top left to bottom right. The yellow frame in box N displays the sum of all the digits within that box that are orthogonally adjacent to the digit N within that box. Eg: the yellow frame in box 4 contains the sum of any digits within box 4 that are orthogonally adjacent to the 4 in box 4.
  • For 2-digit totals, the yellow frame covers a horizontal domino and the total reads from left to right.
  • Every box will have a yellow frame. Only four of these have been shown; the position of the other two are to be discovered.
  • The grey circle contains an odd digit.
  • The white dot connects two consecutive digits. (Not all possible white dots are shown.)

Lösungscode: The grand total if you add up all 6 yellow totals.

This one requires some unusual thinking to find the path! Very interesting, very fun. Nice choice for the solution code too!

Another Marty ....another lesson learnt ;) loved the logic in this, such a smooth flow

pure genius. I kinda of zoned in on the last disambiguation with more intuition rather than logic, but then went back and did that last bit with logic, and it was very satisfying. not a hard solve, more of a 2 for me.

The moment it dawns on you... you know the one. Marty has a knack for these sorts of mid-solve epiphanies and they're always so humbling. You got me again, Marty! Well done (he said, begrudgingly). Beautiful, beautiful puzzle.

I absolutely love this kind of puzzle. Fresh, beautiful logic, very clearly and elegantly presented, and with basically no fluff around the edges. Even the fluffy clues have a nice place in the solve path!

Always fun to solve a 6x6 that makes the most out of a concept and the available space.
