The numbers in the grid represent the heights of the skyscrapers, while the nearest position outside the grid is the skyscraper clue, whose value indicates the number of skyscrapers visible in that row or column when viewed from that direction.

The clue furthest from the grid is the Skyscraper X-Sum clue, which gives the sum of the first X numbers in that direction from the position of the skyscraper clue, where X is the first number in that direction (i.e., the skyscraper clue).

For example, for the sequence 314592687, looking from left to right, the skyscraper clue is 4 (3,4,5,9), and the Skyscraper X-Sum clue (which is the clue given in this puzzle) is 4+3+1+4=12. And if you look from right to left, the skyscraper clue is 3 (7,8,9) and the skyscraper X-Sum clue is 3+7+8=18.
