10 (Types of) Lines

(Eingestellt am 13. September 2023, 02:12 Uhr von mathpesto)

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits in a circle appear at least once each in the four surrounding cells. From left to right, top to bottom, the following lines have the following properties:

  • Whisper (green):
Adjacent digits differ by 5 or more.
  • Thermo (gray):
Digits increase from the bulb to the end.
  • Renban (purple):
The line contains a set of consecutive digits (not necessarily in order).
  • Between (gray):
Digits on the line are between the values in the circled ends.
  • Region Sum (blue):
Digits on the line have the same sum in each box the line is in.
  • 10 Line (gray):
The line consists of one or more contiguous groups of cells, each of which sums to 10. Groups cannot overlap.
  • Nabner (gold):
No two digits may be consecutive.
  • Parity (red):
Adjacent digits alternate between odd/even parity.
  • Modular (teal):
Every set of three sequential digits contains one digit from {1,4,7}, one from {2,5,8}, and one from {3,6,9}.
  • Entropic (orange):
Every set of three sequential digits contains one digit from {1,2,3}, one from {4,5,6}, and one from {7,8,9}.

What a wonderful experience this puzzle was! It was a joy to discover the different ways that apparently unrelated rulesets on the different lines could interact and become greater than the sum of their parts.

German Whispers is one of my favorite variants and I don't think I'd ever seen it combined with 10 lines before, so I assumed that was going to be my favorite part of the solve, but to my surprise I found the unraveling of column 3 even more delightful!

What a great puzzle! The interactions between different lines was so fascinating. The nabner line gave in next with some 2-8 logic and then the thermo crumbled after some interaction with go-between and region-sum lines. But even after that the flow was so smooth but not easy. Thanks for sharing.

Woosh! Made it! I kept making one fatal assumption that, the fourth attempt through, I noticed and corrected.

Part of my problem on my very first attempt was that this is the first time I've heard of Nabner lines and the explanation here is unclear. I thought they just couldn't be consecutive TOGETHER on the line; didn't know that NO consecutive numbers could be anywhere on the line. Seeing a recent CTC video illuminated me on that.

The second and third attempts were just me jumping to a wrong conclusion.

Lovely puzzle! The quadruples and the lines interact nicely!

Really enjoined that puzzle. Took a while to actually see where to start but all those line interactions were really nice.

Hot dog, there're plenty of unusual interactions in here but they're so fun to follow till the end :)

This was pure joy to solve! I can’t imagine how many variations you experimented with to discover which rulesets interacted in the most interesting ways. Thank you so much for what I am sure must have been many hours of work.

Going to have to come back to it - I got the first digit fairly easily. The second digit has eluded me for an hour and a half.

I'd love to rate it high but I broke the puzzle three times so I am probably not going to be able to rate it :-)

The second digit took a while but when it went in it did it started a domino effect and after that I was never stuck for too long.

Nice to see how different lines that aren’t often in the same puzzle interact with each other.

Very nice.
