Seven might be the most dangerous of all the digits. Numerologists can only speculate what is going on inside their cages. No one ever survived a cage expedition and all theories either lack consistency or they leave crucial questions open. Maybe you'll find out, why experts think that there is always something odd going on in there.
Please note the special "afraid" rule, which will be relevant in a later stage of the solve. All other rules are "standard".

This puzzle uses the standard killer cage and little killer rules as well as a special "afraid" rule.
I recently published a similar puzzle that covers the perspective of the prey: Oh Nine, Why Are You Clustering?.
The "given" seven in box 1 is not necessary for a unique solution but without it, the step where 6 and 7 are identified requires some bifurcation.
For coloring, I recommend using one color for each flavor of a 2-cell 7 cage and overlaying it with central pencil marks. So you will get a "blue 124" and so on.

Thanks! If you liked this, check out "lucky dog" from mathpesto. It's also themed around 7 cages.

A bit late to the game, but I've been enjoying your other similar puzzles and decided to check your backlog. I didn't realise you were such a new setter! This one was lovely, and I appreciated the comment about the given 7 being not ENTIRELY necessary, as it actually helped to focus me.

What a beautiful and fun puzzle! Absolutely loved it. The division of candidate possibilities was new to me. Thanks for setting and sharing.

Absolutely beautiful puzzle! The rating in no way reflects the quality. It's also NEARLY symmetrical, besides that one introvert cage that wanted to hide in the corner :)

Thanks again gdc for another fun teaser. I liked how it all fell into place to resolve.

My solution code worked apparently, but to me it looks like there might be two possible solutions
gdc: I think you tried to use the diagonal too early. Did you color your 98 pairs?
