Go with the Flow

(Eingestellt am 20. Mai 2023, 05:00 Uhr von Will Power)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Dutch Whispers- Numbers on red lines are at least 4 apart from their neighbors on the line. Numbers may repeat on red lines, if other rules allow. RENBAN Line- Numbers on the one purple line are a set of non-repeating, consecutive numbers, in any order. Numbers in cages sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage. Numbers with a white dot between them are consecutive. Numbers with an X between them sum to 10. Not all possible X and dots are given.

After a few tries I looked into the comment section. With the clarification of the rules, the puzzle is very nice!

The RENBAN Line Rule was very confusing.

@Lastrevas I am sorry you found it confusing. I received negative feedback for using a standard statement because it caused Chinese setters to treat the RENBAN line as two separate lines. I revised the statement to one that I hoped everyone could understand. You can see my comments to them that changing standard statements could cause others to have problems, but I hadn't seen any negative feedback until now. I just hope that you will give me grace that I was trying to help as many as possible. Thank you. -Will Power

*facepalm*
thanks for the comments mentioning it's not two renban lines... I'll give it another try.

very nice puzzle, had to wrap my brain around it being a SINGLE renban line

Very nice puzzle, but like many before I also struggled with trying to solve two renban lines there instead of one.

Beautiful puzzle. If I had read the rules properly, it could have been much more easier. LOL overall nice puzzle

A great puzzle with nice logic throughout.

Changed rule to be sure solvers do not assume two purple lines.

Broke the puzzle a few times until I realized it's all one renban line, not two intersecting.

Thanks a lot fuxia ! I actually started it thinking as two renban lines....

Great puzzle, thanks! What are the odds that we both created (independently of course) a puzzle with exactly the same title, difficulty and (current) rating a few weeks apart?

@Arlo Lipof Thanks for commenting. I am pretty sure I did not see yours. I am sorry to say I have not solved many Sudoku recently. My title suggests I anticipate a specific solve path. Is this the same for yours? Peace to you. -Will Power

A: Nevermind, I was just amazed at the coincidence! In my puzzle, the idea of ‘flow’ comes from the 9 lines flowing like a stream (and from the corresponding solve path too). Cheers!

It's a nice puzzle, but you should be more careful with the wording of the rules. :) The renban rule is written in plural, but the puzzle has no valid solution if you treat these lines as separate lines.

Hello, @fuxia I will try to be more careful in the future. However, you may find this issue continuing to happen in the future when people who speak other languages set puzzles. Please try to see the difference between the name of the rule "Renban" or "Renban Lines" and the puzzle USE of the rule "Numbers on THE PURPLE LINE" (singular). The rule name (also called TAG on this website) may be singular or plural. There is not a separate rule for singular and plural. I tried to be clear that the USE of the rule for this puzzle is singular. Notice that "German Whispers" always has the "S" at the end. There is no option for the setter to choose singular in the tags when there is only one line. I understand that a translation into Chinese removes the word "THE" from sentences, and this could make translation difficult for you. We use this word to indicate singular. Notice that my Dutch Whispers rule USE says "Numbers on red lines" (plural). In the future, I will try to look for situations in my puzzles that could be confusing, but you should also know that altering the way we speak (write) too much could lead to confusion in other languages. Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention. Peace to you. -Will Power

Changed rules to read "4 apart" in F-Puzzles and CTC links.

Corrected Dutch Whispers instructions to read "4 apart", which is correct for this puzzle.

Nice flow.

This is a difference of 4 on dutch lines.
It is _one_ renban line just cross-shaped
