Anti-Z

(Eingestellt am 19. April 2023, 00:18 Uhr von Christounet)

This puzzle is the second of 2 related puzzles that I created as a gift for Zetamath. His puzzles and setting videos have been a source of inspiration for my own setting, so I wanted to thank him with a gift puzzle. I had so much fun setting the first one that I decided to set another one right after.

Here are the 2 puzzles side by side :

I tried incorporating some elements that might feel familiar to his regular solvers (Z shapes, various lines, ambiguity, S-cells, funny deadly pattern disambiguation...). Not that my puzzles could pretend reaching the complexity and quality standard of Zetamath's. They're just made with some bits of logic I found nice, mixed with a drop of zeta-esque touch to give it the right flavour.

I’m posting the 2 puzzles separately because the difficulty level might feel slightly different. They can be solved independantly. I hope you’ll enjoy them both !

Thanks to Paquet Voleur for testing this one.

Rules :

- Normalish sudoku rules apply: Every row column and box contains the digits 0-9 once each. To enable this, one cell in each row, column, and box is a Schrödinger cell (S-Cell) : it contains two digits.

- If an S-cell is on an arrow, ten-line, region sum line or grey circle (odd), its value is the sum of the 2 digits in it.

- If an S-cell is on an renban, german whisper or between line, both digits are on the line (not their sum) and must respect the line property.

- Renban : on a purple line, digits form a set of non repeating consecutive digits, in any order.

- German Whisper : on a green line, adjacent digits must differ by at least 5.

Note that the bottom left line is a GW and a renban at the same time.

- Between line : digits along lines between two filled circles must be strictly between those in the circles.

- Arrow : digits/numbers along the arrow (in box 3) sum to the digit/number in that arrow's circle. But the solver has to locate the arrow's circle (in R1C9 or R3C8), which has been replaced by an arrow tip.

- Ten-line : the orange line can be broken into one or more strings of digits which sum to 10. Digits may repeat freely on that ten-line, and even within a sum.

- Region sum line : digits on the blue line have an equal sum N within each box it passes through.

- Odd : the VALUE of the grey circle must be odd

Note : there is a white disc that will be revealed behind the given 9, if you color the cell. It is a remnant of the arrow circle that I moved from box 3 but couldn't remove from the puzzle. It has no purpose in the solve.

The puzzle :

Sudokupad (answer check)

Incredible puzzle. There were some nice deductions throughout but that disambiguation at the end was pure genius!
---
@ViKingPrime : A fun original disambiguation was the intention here, so I'm really glad you liked that :)

Z puzzle was good. Anti-Z was better. Maybe that says something about my personality... (And thank you for your hard work.)
---
@peterkp : Lol, that would be a good question for a psychiatric evaluation ! "Are you more Z or anti-Z ? Do you feel a bit Schrödinger inside yourself when you wake up in the morning ? Is anyone GWhispering in your ear when you think ?". Glad you liked the puzzles !

Excellent pair of puzzles! I also am inspired by Zetamath's puzzles, this gives me hope, that maybe I too can make my own someday.
---
@Koalagator2 : Thanks ! I'd be so glad to solve or test a puzzle by you, since you've solved almost all of my puzzles :) I encourage you to watch Zeta's "MIA setting" video if you haven't, it might point you in the right direction to start a first puzzle.

Thank you so much for this very nice puzzle you had me testing. Quite an enjoyable experience and quite an honour for the clumsy solver I am! At this point I knew most of the tricks along the way but decided to solve it again simply to enjoy the solve and to have an opportunity to visit the thorny shortcut trail I missed out during testing. Again, thank you so much!
