Second start skyscraper

This puzzle doesn’t have a link, feel free to skip my puzzle, you won’t miss anything.

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 9 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 box.

Every digit inside the grid is a skyscraper, the height of which is defined by the value of the digit.

Clues outside shows the number of roofs one can at the top of the first skyscraper. Higher buildings hide the lower buildings roof behind. In other words, count skyscrapers from the second digit.

There isn’t much to say about this puzzle. It’s a practice before main dish. Skyscraper for me is a little bit luck based setting. There’s a lot of deduction in proving a structure not exist. But for this puzzle, it might be a lot more closer to skyscraper than i think. That’s why there’s given digits, i can’t deal with normal variant. Maybe because the rules are too short for me to dig deeper. Sure in my later days, i’m capable to set a normal skyscraper, but that’s a story for another day. In a word, i find it hard to think of a structure if the rule is too simple. In this case, a software assisted puzzle may be better. I feel like software can notice the details i can’t notice. I still need to find a way to be better than computer generated puzzles.

Another interesting thing to be mentioned, Old Miles say this puzzle gives him a feeling of his first solve in skyscraper. I think i started to shape the solving experience from that point on, to feel new. I can’t speak for Old Miles, but when i first knew this variant, i remember copying it on to my little notebook with hand drawn grid. I don’t have the habit of start from 9. i solve the puzzle with less systematic tricks. But after all these years, when i look back those puzzle i solved, it’s too easy. I can’t find the same feeling when i notice a subset. But now, since i’m setting the puzzle, i can try to make me not regret setting one. I need to go all in so when i look back in the future, i can find the same feeling when i first solve a sudoku variant.

Lovely! Your puzzles are always a lot greater than computer generated puzzles, of course. I also feel a bit like when solving a skyscraper puzzle for the first time. Several times I noticed something obvious that I had completely overlooked for a while. I'm looking forward to the main dish!

bigger:even though i don't want to discourage you, but i don't think my puzzles are 'a lot' better. my puzzles prove setters are capable enough to set a puzzle without any help from any software and handcraft puzzles can be hard. because Old Miles is known for computer generated puzzles. you probably didn't notice it because he put enough effort into his puzzle. that's why he and i talks a lot. we both have different style and focus in setting. the problem with computer generated puzzles is that the difficulty can be really random. but it's easy for computer to reach a certain goal. what i did is create as many goals as possible. you can compare our puzzles in my previous couplet post. certain ideas are fit for computer generated. it's too hard for me to sieve every combination to find a working one. that's why you seldom see me setting a calculation based puzzle or non Sudoku variant. even when i do set one, the difficulty is way down there. you can always feel that it can be better.
