Rules:
Enter digits from 1 to 9 into some cells such that no digit repeats in a row or column and leave the other cells empty. Clues outside the grid are Japanese sum clues, i.e. they give the sum of connected digits in the respective row or column in the correct order. Single digits are also given. For any row or column, either all or no clues are given.
The clues have been given by an extraterrestrial, who uses an unknown number base. Same letters mean same "digits", different letters mean different "digits". It can be played here.
Lösungscode: The marked row followed by the marked column, S for empty cell

Loved that one! Although the E.T.s are always a big (but fun) challenge for me.

Fun puzzle, not that easy compared to the main course tbh ;)

@h5663454 Yes, any base is possible, but all clues are in the same base.
am 16. Februar 2023, 16:10 Uhr von h5663454
I'm not quite sure, is it possible that the base has a value greater than 10?

Oh... this is definitely a huge challenge for me like never before...

More than 100 minutes... This should be the first time I challenge a question type that I am completely unfamiliar with.
Hmm... I mean alphabetically encrypted Japanese sums. Looks like I need to take some time to catch up...
I have to say that almost 3/4 of the time, I was guessing the base number of the hints, and it took only a little time to complete the filling of the entire board.

I like these aliens a lot. But although having solved already a number of those puzzles it took me some time to make my brain stop thinking the terrestrial way and to realize all possibilities.

Great puzzle, not as difficult as I thought I’d find it. This gives me a bit more confidence for the next in the series, thanks!

@kjholt You never know... the alien might know base 10 :-)

I wondered when this might come out and I'm glad there's an approachable one first since I probably won't even be able to do this one. Nice touch with the message in the cipher... Funny that the alien knows English but not base-10 ;)

@RJBlarmo As is the nature with many puzzles of this type... a brunt of the difficulty typically is related to determining the relevant number base. There are a couple different ways to determine it for this puzzle, but I agree none of them are trivial.

Very nice puzzle, I found the beginning steps a bit tricky. Looking forward to the next Japanese Sum Cave puzzle!

Beautiful construction! Although, I fear for the difficulty of the next JSSCC considering the time this took me to solve :P
