Hybrid Star Battle Series (004) - Sashigane

(Eingestellt am 29. Januar 2023, 16:38 Uhr von BenceJoful)

Intro

For this Hybrid Star Battle Series I will be sharing a new puzzle each week combining Star Battle with another puzzle genre. This week's genre is Sashigane. A classic Sashigane puzzle rules allows for additional clues (circles with or without numbers), but I decided to focus on just the arrows for this puzzle, so the rules as written here is just the relevant subset. Perhaps in the future I'll revisit this genre and make use of the full ruleset.

I want to thank everyone so much for the feedback I've gotten so far on this series. I love exploring the logic that arises from these silly mashups during setting, and it means a lot to me that others find them interesting as well. All feedback is welcome, and I appreciate the comments even if I don't reply to them.

Rules

Standard Sashigane and Star Battle rules apply.

  • Sashigane: Divide the grid into regions of orthogonally connected cells. Each region must be an L shape with a width of one cell. Arrows must lie at one end of an L and point toward the bend.
  • Star Battle: Shade some cells such that each row, column, and Sashigane L contains exactly 2 shaded cells. Shaded cells may not touch one another, not even diagonally.

8x8 2-star Example (Penpa+ link):

Lösungscode: For each arrow (left-to-right, top-to-bottom), give the number of unshaded cells in the Sashigane before hitting the first shaded cell. In the example, the code is 132101343.

Modified example image and code to better illustrate solution code bending around corners.

@kjholt, Yes, a sashigane L can contain two given arrows. After all, there are 14 arrows and only 10 regions. Sorry for any confusion.
