Slithering Snakes

(Eingestellt am 22. Januar 2023, 08:18 Uhr von MarkV)

Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Magic Square: The middle box of the grid is a magic square. Every row, column and diagonal in the magic square should sum to the same number. Snakes do not enter the magic square.

Snakes: The grid contains 8 snakes, which adhere to 5 placement rules:
1. Snakes are a one-cell wide path of orthogonally connected cells that start at the head and end at the tail.
2. Snakes do not overlap with each other - a cell can belong to only 1 snake.
3. Snakes twist and turn. A snake can can touch itself, but it does not cross itself.
4. The 8 given cages are the heads of the snakes.
5. The tail of a snake must be in a box directly adjacent to the box with the head.

Digits in the head and tail of the snake adhere to 4 digit rules:
1. The higher digit in the head is the length of the snake, not counting the head itself.
2. For heads where only 1 digit is given, the given digit is guaranteed to be the higher digit.
3. The body of the snake starts from the lower digit.
4. The lower digit in the head is the same as the digit in the tail (last cell) of the snake.

The attached example shows 2 valid snakes (green and yellow) and 2 incorrect snakes (blue and pink).

To avoid any confusion with other snake-themed puzzles: snakes in this puzzle are not regions and there are no restrictions on digits in the body of the snake, only head and tail.
