[Fog of War Series] 10. Sudoku Dungeon

(Eingestellt am 24. November 2022, 04:12 Uhr von AstralSky)

  • Rules:
  • 1. Choose 5 digits from 0-9 for each 5x5 grid. Every row/column need to have a complete set of 0-9, except where prevented by other rules.(The letter still function as the replaced digit if it`s on a constraint.)
  • 2.Normal Arrow rules apply. All arrow circles are single digit.
  • 3.Kropki rules apply: Black dots connect digits with 1:2 ratio, White dot connect consecutive digits. All BLACK dots are given, but not all white dots are given
  • 4.Numpad Index: Blue Statue cell follow Numpad Index. The digit in Statue cell indicates a direction according to that digits` position to 5 in a mobile Numpad
    1↖ 2↑ 3↗
    4← 5· 6→
    7↙ 8↓ 9↘
----0↓---- Statues(Can`t be 5, since it don`t have a direction) point to the Only key within the same 5x5.There is at least 1 statue pointing to that key. No two keys may be in a same row or column
  • 5. PASSWORD: Black cells are walls separating grids, with two cells unblocked as a passageway. Red cell is the Dungeon Door: You need to put the letter you see on the door into the Key cell within the same 5x5 grid. After that you`ll get a character from the key cell(given both at the top left of a cage and center of the cell.So if a cell isn`t caged, the key isn`t there. The location of key cell is to be deduced) Enter the character you get on the key behind the door(green cell) to proceed to the next grid. Some clues can only be seen if you keep the letter that clear the fog surrounding the key.
  • Reminder:
  • This puzzle is partial-lighting FoW. Only entering digits at certain places will light up, so it doesn`t mean you are wrong when you entered a digit but it don`t clear fog. To solve the puzzle you also need to enable letter tool on ctc app. Answer check does not work.

Interestingly complex rules, but not too hard to solve - I wasn't sure about aspects like whether key cells would be highlighted (and found that they're not until the right letter is entered into them). Apart from that uncertainty it was fairly smooth to solve.

Tricky
The numpad directions were a sticky point for me - I initially didn't see there were 10 options, not 9. (and it's different way up than the numpad on my keyboard)

Also, after chipping away and revealing the grid, I thought I had it wrong, as I first entered "row 8 (skip blacks)" as row 3 of the second set of 5x5s, thinking it meant row 8 of the 10x10 (not including black cells) rather than row 8 of a 12x12)

Added a sentence to rules.

You can get around the impossible duality of key cells by changing rule 1 to say "Every row/column must have a complete set of the digits from 0-9, except where prevented by other rules." That will allow the key cell to only contain a letter without violating the rules of the puzzle.

took me 80 minutes, but i solved it in the end. got quite confused for a while between needing a complete set of 0-9 in every row and column, and having to place a letter—not a digit—in the key cell!

eventually i decided i had to put the digits back into the key cell after finding the caged letter, and made peace with having a few neighbouring cells solved, but still fogged up at the end.

i think the ruleset is a bit awkward, but the idea of this puzzle is ingenious, and i would love to see a future iteration of it!

Re: Thanks for the feedback! The key cell was supposed to have a dual property --it contains both a letter and a digit, but due to the current limitations on CtC app it's not possible to set both values to be able to illuminate nearby fog areas so had to make some compromises.

This was a very good use of the Fog of War constraint, and an excellent puzzle. I love this idea. I wish I'd thought of it - it's obvious in retrospect.

How did you set a puzzle that requires letters in the grid to open the FoW cells?

Re: Thanks. To put letters as solution, either manually enter the solution in Sudokupad beta with letters, then use the new F-puzzles solution link in settings, or use the JSON editor to set letters as solution

Great puzzle! I got stuck at a point, where you have to know, that a key has to be in a cage. Maybe you should emphasize that.

Re: Actually I have that emphasized in bold--if a cell isn`t caged, the key isn`t there. Glad you liked this puzzle :)

Re: Your right, it is clear. Keep going with this series!

Reworded some parts of the rules.

Would definitely rate this harder than a 2*, and I could have used more clues (that could be my deficiency or impatience though). I got lucky a few times where I couldn't actually figure out the logic. But I really like this concept with unlocking the doors, very cool!
