Greater than X

(Eingestellt am 30. Oktober 2022, 20:41 Uhr von bigger)

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 9 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 box.

The arrow indicates the number of the cells who are larger than x in the first x cells in the arrow direction, where x is the first cell the arrow sees. The first x cells has to be inside the grid.

All possible arrows are given.

I think this is too easy to remember. I only recalled saying it’s easy and a little bit handy at the last. Now that i solve it again, i can see what i put. Interesting enough, but still not powerful enough to break the pointer edge curse. Unless toroidal, which is another problem i’m dealing now.

Small conclusion, pointer is the second dead series besides the four cells around one circle. There are not that many space for maneuver. The edge blocks so many possibility. It needs a way out other than grid variant, like toroidal. Even though partial clues works, it’s unstable and work for every other variant. It needs an inside unique way out. It always seems like whatever i change, the small digits are useful. Another way might be useful is making the direction undecided, which leads to another problem of how to show the clues effectively and clearly. Old miles and I try it in the sandwich ones, but even that three has some problem of blocking the written digits and pencil mark. Probably that’s the reason why i just don’t remember.

Lösungscode: Row 5 and column 5(18 digits)

uhh, I'll be brutal here and say it straight up. Even if it's a very easy solve, the language in explaining the rules is either ambiguous or confusing depending on what the reader thinks X is.
so... yeah.

The realities of the internet: If the explanation of a puzzle's rules is ambiguous... The next puzzle is one click away.

bigger:fact one, i don't rely on the Internet reality. my name is well known enough for Chinese setters. that's enough for me. i just post to make a diary. another fact, i don't need clicks. it's a standard x-sum like rule, what else do you want from me? if you don't like it, don't solve it. i'm not going to change my puzzles just because people don't understand, especially when there's an illustration. just remember one thing, don't try to teach me how to get more solve.

It took a minute to get my head around how the constraint works and what it forces, but once I did the puzzle was very smooth.
