The Rings of Power

(Eingestellt am 17. Oktober 2022, 17:38 Uhr von Ceedrich)

As the finale of Lord of the Rings – The Rings of Power has come out recently, I decided to create a rings-of-power-themed sudoku, which, as I think, came out pretty nicely.

The contents of this box are not entirely relevant for the puzzle, but just to provide some background information on the rings of power.

In the second age after the sun of Middle-Earth, nineteen rings of power were forged. Three by the elvensmith Celebrimbor which were never touched by the dark lord Sauron. Seven rings went to the dwarfs and nine to the men.

And there was another ring forged by the dark lord himself in the fires of mount doom – The One Ring which had the power to influence the others.

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

The rings found in this puzzle are the purest of their kind, those forged by the elf Celebrimbor. There is the White Ring, Nenya, which was made out of mithril and was wielded by Galadriel, the Ring of Fire Narya and the Ring of Air, Vilya.

Rules:
  • Normal sudoku rules apply
  • Digits along the indicated positive diagonal must not repeat
  • Every ring of power is exactly one of the following line types:
    1. thermometer with its bulb being at the gemstone of the ring (digits strictly increase along a thermometer from the bulb)
    2. renban line (digits must form a set of consecutive, non-repeating digits)
    3. region sum line (digits on a region sum line sum to the same total in every region the line is in)

@schesam - This cannot be the case, since that would mean only the gold rings could be thermos (the silver one is too long for it to work that way). And since that would be a 9-cell long thermo, it would be both a thermo and a renban...and the rules state each line is exactly one of those types (not two of them).

@asp1310 the start is the cloroed circle and the end is one oft the tow cells connected to it on the ring. so the whole circle is ONE thermo

Is the end of the thermo in the middle of the ring opposite the bulb (resulting in two thermos of the same length), or must it be deduced and may be anywhere along the ring (resulting in two different length thermos)? It may be worth putting that in the rules.
