X-Sum/Skyscraper Killer Sudoku

(Eingestellt am 16. September 2022, 18:17 Uhr von KNT)

This is largely inspired by puzzles from the great setter udukos. Check out his puzzles if you haven't!

This puzzle is a killer sudoku in which cages go outside the grid, and outside digits serve as either x-sum or skyscraper clues for the respective row or column. The difficulty should be between 4 and 5.

Rules:

Within the 9x9 grid, normal sudoku rules apply. In a cage, digits may not repeat, and numbers within a cage must sum to the value shown in the top left corner. Digits may repeat outside the 9x9 grid, but still they may not repeat within cages.

Values within a cage outside the 9x9 grid serve as EITHER valid X-sums or skyscraper clues for the respective row or column. If two outside clues refer to the same direction of the same row or column, one must be an X-sum clue, and the other must be a skyscraper clue. (Example, to the left of R1 in the 18 cage, one of those cells must contain an X-sum clue for R1 from the left, and the other a skyscraper clue for R1 from the left. Which cell contains which type of clue in this case is irrelevant, as both are within the same cage. To the left of R2, the order is *not* irrelevant, as the two outside clues belong to different killer cages).

Skyscraper clues are, as usual, bounded from 1-9. X-sums clues may, however, be double digit numbers. These double digit numbers still obey the "no digit may repeat" rule for killer cages. For example, the number 22 may not appear in any outside clue, as then whatever cage the 22 is in contains two 2s. Likewise a cage cannot have both 5 and 15, as a 5 would repeat. Two digit numbers cannot begin with a zero, but they may end in zero.

Note:

Because of what is mentioned above, the order of some of the outside clues is not necessarily unique, and as a result this puzzle does not have answer check.

The puzzle can be played here.

Good luck, and as always I am happy to provide assistance via hidden comment or through discord, if that is more convenient for you.

This was terrific! This is the first puzzle where I've dared going off of the CtC ranch and not had a video to fall back on if I got stuck. I am glad I made it, and enjoyed all of the weird logic and surprises along the way!

Very beautiful. The cages that are fully outside the grid are more helpful than I thought they would be.

thank you all for the kind feedback! I had a lot of fun setting this puzzle, and I will probably make more "clues that go outside the grid" puzzles in the near future!

Okay but how is this possible? I very much liked the contrast between skyscraper and x-sum values.
