Japanese Sum Nurikabe #2 (16x16)

(Eingestellt am 6. September 2022, 02:52 Uhr von KNT)

The testing process for this one went very smoothly, so here it is a little bit sooner than expected. This is definitely one of my favorite sets, and I hope you give it a try despite its size. In my opinion, this is incomparably better than #1 as it integrates nurikabe logic, Japanese sums logic, and arithmetic logic much more seamlessly, as well as having a smoother (but much longer) solve path. Good luck!

Rules:
  • Blacken some cells such that all blackened cells are orthogonally connected, and contain no 2x2 blocks.
  • Place a digit from 1-9 in every cell that is not blackened such that no digit repeats in any row or column. A row or column of the grid does not necessarily need to contain every digit from 1-9. Blackened cells may not contain digits.
  • Groups of orthogonally connected cells with digits form islands, which do not touch orthogonally, but may touch diagonally. On an island, digits may not repeat, and every island must contain the digit which is its size.
  • Outside the grid are Japanese Sums clues, which indicate the sums of consecutive filled cells in the respective row or column. Each distinct Japanese Sum clue is separated by at least one blackened cell. For any row or column, either all or no clues are provided.
  • Whenever it appears inside or outside the grid, a "?" represents a single digit number, and a "??" represents a double digit number. A double digit number cannot begin with 0.
  • Outside the grid, "..." denotes an arbitrary number of Japanese Sum clues. This could be zero, one, or multiple.
  • Inside the grid are some clued cells. These cells are all blackened, and the number of values within a clued cell indicates the number of distinct islands that touch the 8 cells that surround the clued cell. Each value within a clue cell corresponds to the sum of all the digits on one of the islands that directly surround the clued cell. No two values within a clued cell indicate the sum of the same island (i.e. each clue is distinct).
The puzzle can be played here.

Below is an example on the numbers 1 through 5 to demonstrate the rules.

Lösungscode: Row 6, Column 12, with X for empty cells (32 characters total)

Really enjoyed this! Not super difficult, but definitely a long solve - my 2 and a half hours just flew by. Thank you!

Wow, what an amazing puzzle! There is not a single deduction that is particularly hard, but it has a long solving path with quite consistent difficulty. And it remains interesting throughout the whole solve. Thanks a lot for creating this wonderful puzzle!

What a fantastic puzzle ! From the subtle break in to the final resolution, a hell of a looong ride for me, but it was worth every minute of it. Thanks to KNT for helping me spot a very silly mistake I made (not counting correctly the number of ? in a row), which led to a ridiculously long stare at the puzzle... Anyway, a joy from start to finish.

Wunderschönes Rätsel.
Der Lösungsweg war sehr "eng", aber gut zu finden.
Beautiful puzzle.
The solution path was very "narrow", but good to find.

Wonderful puzzle! The variety of deductions was surprising, but never felt unfair at any point. It was a true marathon of breathtaking logic.

What an incredible puzzle! This was visually intimidating for me to open, but the path was surprisingly smooth and allowed for gradual progress without any particularly brutal steps. For the first time while solving, I felt like I was part of the plot of a film, and each "breakthrough" of the solve moved the story forward. Thank you for sharing your genius!

To anyone that has attempted in the past 24 hours... I deeply apologize! I went to fix the answer check yesterday (as it came to my attention it was slightly broken) and in doing so I accidentally removed the clue in R15C13 from the link. Thank you @Vebby for pointing that out! Link is fixed.

That was a crazy solve, but in a great way! The elements combined into the opening were surprising and seeing the puzzle slowly but surely unfolded itself in a smooth way was really satisfying as well x)

Hard and long puzzle, but no step is brutal in itself. A tiring, long and enjoyable marathon.

Awesome puzzle, thanks! Very clever break-in followed by a long stream of lovely deductions with a consistent and enjoyable difficulty level

Looks intimidating, but it really does have a very smooth solve path. Great puzzle, 3 hours well spent for me!

When transcribing the puzzle into Penpa+, I accidentally omitted a "5" clue at the top of the Japanese Sums in C10. Image and link fixed. Apologies to anyone if they started it before I made this change!

My favourite puzzle of yours to date; a joy to solve from start to finish! Brilliant balance between the different rules and a much smoother solve for me compared to #1. Really hope people aren't put off by the big grid on this one & give it a go. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next ;)
