Distant Chaotic Relations #1

(Eingestellt am 20. August 2022, 10:21 Uhr von PrimeWeasel)

Fill the grid with digits from 1 to 5 so that they appear in every row, column and region once. Regions are orthogonally connected and have to be determined.

An arrow in a cell indicates that the cell's value is N, and the Nth cell in the direction of the arrow will have a digit that is consecutive to N, and is in a different region. For example, a cell with a 4 and an arrow means that the fourth cell in the direction of the arrow will be either 3 or 5, in a different region than the 4 is in.

All possible arrows are indicated.

I was a little surprised that I could place all the digits without having made the regions, which is unusual for a chaos construction.
It made the solve form 2 parts - placing the digits, which was very easy and didn't take long, and making the regions, which was harder. There was some interesting logic in making the regions though, especially with how the negative constraint works, so I liked it.

Was very satisfying to solve, got a little stumped on the regions, but we made it through. Well done!

The digits were easy but the regions took some doing, so I gave it three stars. Between you and me maybe there's a full 9x9 version coming up.

~ Glad you made it through! I have actually made bigger versions as well, but they all relied on creating the regions after having filled in the digits, and I'd really rather want to have solvers create the regions during the solve, but I haven't found a proper way to do it, so #2 might take a while. I'm not going to put a 7x7 out there which works in the same way as this one. If you figure something cool out, that'd be very exciting!

I'm just a tad bit lost on the "regions" ... it would seem there are a great many ways to make them ...

~All arrows are given...

OOOOOH, I just saw "...and are in a different region". Okay, that answers my confusion.
