Rainbow Springs

(Eingestellt am 1. August 2022, 10:02 Uhr von Bremster)

I have always struggled with solving Chaos Construction puzzles, and I have never created one. I wanted to make one that used a simple ruleset and be a good introduction to the puzzle type for people who also struggle with them.

However, the concepts of building your own regions is daunting and I wanted to make a puzzle that would allow people to explore this concept in a more welcoming way. A lot of solvers have commented to me that Chaos Construction puzzles are too intimidating for them, so this puzzle is designed to be something where they can explore building regions is a more gentle way.
(This has been added after many MANY messages that this puzzle is not a chaos construction puzzle because what I did to help people explore region building was "BAD" and "You can't do that")

Welcome to Rainbow Springs.

Puzzle Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • The digits 1 to 9 must appear once in every row, column, and region. Regions are to be determined by the solver, and must be a set of nine orthogonally connected cells.
  • Digits in cages must sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage. Digits can not repeat within cages.
  • Each cage must be fully contained within a single region.

Delightful puzzle, definitely an excellent approachable introduction to region building!

I don't mean to call anyone out, but saying this isn't a chaos construction because the grid is fillable without finding all the regions first does remind me of elitism.
Nice puzzle and thank you for setting

Really enjoyed this one. The way the killer cages interacted without the use of given boxes was something super cool that we hadn't really seen in any of the previous killers/killer type puzzles we've solved in the past. This puzzle was honestly just super fun to solve from start to finish!

Removed Chaos Construction tag as too many people told me this wasn't a Chaos Construction puzzle and it's not worth the argument.

Very fun combination of killer cage logic and chaos construction.

We have always just clicked on past chaos construction puzzles but your introductory description encouraged us to try this one and it lived up to its promise! We enjoyed it very much and appreciated that the region disambiguation was helpful at the start but that the puzzle didn't rely solely on that for the solve path. It allowed us to learn a bit more about region disambiguation by bootstrapping up from solving techniques that are more familiar. We'll be less afraid of chaos construction in the future, though we are still unsure that we're willing to tackle setting one! Thank you for this gentle introduction to the genre. -- FullDeck and Missing a Few Cards

I agree, love all that CC-stuff but most of them are very hard to solve. So I really enjoyed this one! Thank you for setting.

Interesting, I was definitely expecting that finding the regions would play a more significant role in the solution. Fun puzzle anyway, regardless of how chaotic or not it is!
