Structured Illumination

Here’s an hybrid puzzle mixing just classic palindrome lines and Sktx’s Still Life rules, based on John Conway’s Game of Life, where the Still Life part is confined to a petri plate-like 5x5 region

For the purpose of the Still Life phase, the cells inside the petri dish (ie, the 5x5 region) DO NOT COUNT as neighbors the cells outside the petri dish, but can still all technically use the digits 1 to 9 (another way to phrase it is, cells separated by the 5x5 region border do not see one another)

Thank you to Samish and filuta for testing!

RULES

Normal Sudoku rules apply

STILL LIFE RULES

Every cell inside the 5x5 region is either in state Dead or in state Alive - not both, and this region forms a stable configuration under Conway's Game of Life rules, i.e.:

Given that the “neighborhood” *** of a cell is made of all its orthogonally and diagonally adjacent cells inside the 5x5 region (and confined to this region only),

- Dead cells CAN NOT have exactly 3 Alive neighbors (otherwise they would come alive)
- Alive cells MUST have exactly 2 or 3 Alive neighbors (otherwise they would die)
- A CIRCLED*** cell's digit indicates the number of cells that are in the SAME state as its own in its neighborhood, INCLUDING*** its own cell
- A SQUARED cell's digit indicates the number of cells that are in a DIFFERENT state from its own in its neighborhood (therefore not including its own cell)

PALINDROME RULES

The grey lines surrounding the 'petri dish' are palindromes. Digits along a palindrome line read the same forwards or backwards (e.g., 4-5-6-5-4)

***(technically unrequired clarification): Think of the neighborhood as a bag filled with apples (alive cells) and/or oranges (dead cells). A circled cell is counted not because it is its own neighbor, but because it is counted with the others of its kind in the bag – e.g., an apple marked with a ‘4’ circle is telling you that there’ll be 3 more apples along with it, for a total of 4 apples in the bag

A square on the other hand is telling you how many of the other fruit there are, and obviously an apple can’t be counted among the oranges and vice versa

Remember that an apple (alive cell) is REQUIRED to be accompanied by 2 or 3 others – not more than 3, not less than 2. The restriction on any given orange (dead cells) is that it cannot find itself flanked with exactly 3 apples, otherwise it’ll turn into an apple! (The Game of Life calls that ‘reproduction’ :P)

Lösungscode: First the digits in the dead cells in column 6 (top to bottom), followed by the digits in the alive cells in column 7, top to bottom also (for a total of 6 digits)

Cute and straightforward, thanks !
.............
Looks like you're back on a Still Life binge, thank you so much for yet another solve on my puzzles and overall support, both for me and the ruleset! :D

Surely I'll get back to Still Lifes too at some point, but for now, if you want more, there's dodomos who also made one ("Double Ender") and it's still unrated! (and trickier than it looks too hehe)

I've just found your and Sktx's still life puzzles and I really like them. This puzzle was great! :)
...............
Oh, would that be through the series I started on Discord? That would certainly be an encouragement to continue!
In any case, thank you for your solves and comments (both for myself and Sktx), and doubly so for getting this one rated!:D

It was through discord, the first one I found was Black Hole Sun (which I also really enjoyed) while I was looking for fog of war puzzles. Thank you for making these and I do hope you continue, it's such an interesting ruleset.

I did your Framed Miniature https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=000CBL first, and then this one which is a bigger puzzle. But after doing the smaller one this one was not too hard!
Thanks.
...............
Thank you so much for both these solves and especially for that comment! That comment makes me doubly happy, cause I was certainly hoping at least a little bit that something like that would happen -- that this one would get some renewed attention, and that this one felt easier for you! :D

Amazing puzzle ! The petri dish logic is quite beautiful and yet approachable, a very good way to get used to the unusual ruleset. And the palindromes are just perfect for their purpose.
Hats off, it's a must-do !
...........
Thank you so much once again for testing and for the (very) nice comments! I finally managed to repay you by solving your 2nd puzzle this morning :-)

cool concept of the Petri dish and overall fun puzzle. it was a pleasure to test this one!

Thank you for entering your solve (even after the puzzle changed title haha)! I feel priviledged to have such an amazing setter as you as a regular tester! :-)
