Invisible mercury, 17 & 32 [draw your own thermo sudoku]

(Eingestellt am 23. März 2022, 14:11 Uhr von SimplePurpleFrog)

Invisible mercury gives visual clues on 17 cells and invisible clues on 32.

My target with this 'draw your own thermo' puzzle is something new, fun and approachable.

Rules:

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Thermos: digits increase from the bulb end (may or may not match an indexed thermo);
  • Cages: digits sum to the total indicated in the top-left corner; Also, the row number (horizontal cage) or column number (vertical cage) is the digit to be placed at the row and column indicated by the digits in the cage; The solver must determine which digit is the row and which is the column;
  • Indexed thermos:
    • There is a thermo on each row/column;
    • The lowest of the first and last digits indexes the thermo's bulb, counting from the low side;
    • The highest indexes the tip;
    • No two thermos share a cell.
  • Each visible constraint (i.e. cages and marked thermos, in this puzzle) either shares all cells with a single indexed thermo or does not share any cell with any indexed thermo.

Play Invisible mercury on F-Puzzles or CtC.

Please let me know how you get on.

Example RC indexing: e.g. a horizontal cage in r4c5c6. r4 means the digit to be placed is a 4 (we check the row because the domino is horizontal, otherwise we check the column), the digit in r4c5 is either the row or the column indexed, the digit in r4c6 is either the column or the row indexed, at that RC, place the digit 4.

Example indexed thermo: Say digit 7 is in r4c1 and digit 5 in r4c9, then, in row 4, the thermo starts from the right (because 5 is lower than 7 and in column 9) on the 5th cell from the right is the bulb of the thermo, going straight to the tip of the thermo in the 7th cell from the right.

Full 7x7 grid working example (the smallest possible grid that can have full thermo indexing):

You can even play the example on F-Puzzles

Or play Invisible mercury (full 9x9 grid puzzle) on F-Puzzles or CtC.

Additional tags: RC indexing, Indexed thermometers.

Ich wäre Ihnen dankbar, wenn mir jemand eine Übersetzung meines Rãtsel ins Deutsche zur Verfügung stellen würde.

Lösungscode: All digits in row 3 and column 3

Very nice puzzle! At first I made an incorrect assumption, and kept reaching a contradiction; thanks to SimplePurpleFrog for explaining my error. (In hindsight it was obvious, and even shown in the example.)

Another lovely puzzle! I had to start and stop a few times, stepping away for a little bit of time really helped the logic settle in. When i started i felt as though i was just guessing, but after familiarizing myself with why things didn't work (after maybe 2 hours....) i found the logic of this ruleset to be a lot of fun.

The indexing logic is very nice, especially the indexed thermos. Interesting how the direction of the thermo can cause it to jump from one side of a row / column to the other. Thanks for the puzzle!
