Multi-Grain / Low-Carb Sandwich Sudoku

(Eingestellt am 15. Oktober 2021, 22:56 Uhr von SenatorGronk)

Our deli just received an order from eighteen very picky eaters. Not content with the standard offering, everyone has asked for their sandwich to be made with a different combination of two types of bread (out of the nine we offer). They are all also on a low-carb diet, so want their sandwiches to be more filling than bread (a requirement we were able to fulfill most of the time).

Rules
  • Standard sudoku rules apply.
  • Just like a normal sandwich sudoku, every row, column, and box has two pieces of crust with clues on the outside indicating the sum of the filling in between.
  • Multi-grain bread: The eighteen crust digits are comprised of two sets of the digits 1-9 instead of nine 1s and nine 9s. Also, each of the eighteen sandwiches has a unique combination of two crust digits.
  • Low-carb: For most sandwiches the sum of the filling is more than the sum of the crust digits. The clues in red are the only sandwiches with crust digits whose sum is greater than or equal to the sum of the filling.

Really cool and creative variant.

Replacing empty clues with >0 to make it clear that those sandwiches have a filling and are "low-carb" (i.e. the filling sum is greater than the crust sum)

I removed a couple of clues that weren't needed to solve the puzzle.

LOL I think I figured out row 2 crust? But after that couldn't decide where to go so I attempted something with column 9 and hit a wall. Trying to understand whether crust cells can be used on other sandwiches too, and whether insides can be used for other sandwiches. I think you are stating that all sandwiches are independent but that breaks my row 2, therefore it must be incorrect.

REPLY: No, crusts can't be part of other sandwiches. They are laid out _exactly_ like normal sandwich sudoku crusts: 2 per row, column, box. The only difference is the number.

And, yeah - Row 2 + Col 9 is a gentle break-in to get used to the constraints. (the part about all crust pairs being unique is key)
