Baba is Anti-Knight

(Eingestellt am 16. Oktober 2021, 21:36 Uhr von FryTheGuy)

The puzzle is inspired by the game Baba is You.

I did my best to make the concept of dynamic puzzle rules as simple as possible, hopefully you enjoy it!

Rules

Normal sudoku rules apply

Cells separated by an “is” add a rule to the left number based on the following mapping for the right number:

  • 1: small (less than 5)
  • 2: anti-knight
  • 3: anti-king
  • 4: anti-queen
  • 5: odd
  • 6: nonconsecutive
  • 7: anti-long knight (taxicab distance of 4)
  • 8: even
  • 9: large (larger than 5)

The same rule cannot be added to the same number multiple times.

Examples

If the string "3 is 4" is in the grid, it means the the 3s in the puzzle cannot be within a queen's move of another 3.

The string "4 is 5" is cannot appear in the grid, because that would mean 4 is odd, which is false.

The string "2 is 1" is cannot appear in the grid more than one time.

There is nothing that prevents the same rule from being used multiple times, so the strings "7 is 3" and "8 is 3" could both exist in the grid simultaneously.

Rule Clarifications

anti-long knight: The cells containing the specified number cannot be a taxicab distance of 4 away from each other. This puzzle has a good image to explain a long knight move.

nonconsecutive: orthogonally adjacent cells cannot contain digits consecutive to the specified number.

Super good! This is my favorite ambiguity-type puzzle I've ever solved!

@avishai @bob

I will try and make another puzzle with this ruleset and try to make the break-in a little easier next time :)

Thank you! This was such a delight, and every time I felt like I was stuck, something wiggled just right.

Would love to see more puzzles with this type of ruleset/constraint!

@bob

I also stared at it forever before noticing the break-in, but it actually is fair and as well telegraphed and hinted towards as anything could be in this sort of a puzzle. I don’t know if that might help if you were to just scan the grid for another five minutes, but it might be worth the try.

I like the idea, but cannot find the break-in after very considerable searching and marking. Maybe someone will make an easier one.

That was a fun solve from start to finish. I think it captures the spirit of the game perfectly. Solve path is smooth and enojyable.

Loved it. Took me a few minutes to get the hang of the process, but from there was just really nice logic all the way through.

Just for clarification, does every rule set have to be used once or can one rule be applied on multiple digits?

--------------------

The rules do not have to all be used once, so one rule can be applied to multiple digits

PUZZLE IS INCREDIBLE

Favorite puzzle I've done in a while. Solved it while watching Simon and Mark speed through the real game, would love to see them give this a try.

I am really happy you enjoyed the puzzle so much!

I always get a little nervous when publishing puzzles with complex rules.
