Antiknight Killer Sudoku

(Eingestellt am 15. September 2021, 05:20 Uhr von PotatoHead21)

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Cells separated by a knight's move in chess cannot contain the same digit.
  • Digits in killer cages must sum to the small number in the top left corner of the cage and cannot repeat within cages.

I rated this 4/5 difficulty.

Very cool puzzle and very nice use of the phistomefel ring. I don't think this was difficult enough to be rated 5/5 (very hard), but it was definitely tough during the 'break in'.

I would definitely rate the break in 4-5/5 difficulty, but once I figured out the nature of the digits on the ring, it was probably a 3/5 difficulty mid/end game.

The most difficult part for me was figuring out the logic for the number of large and medium digits that could be placed on the ring, but once I understood that it was very straightforward.

When I started the puzzle I immediately knew that the antiknight rule would heavily restrict the center cell on the ring, but it took me probably 10-15 minutes to figure out the geometry. I have seen some puzzles that use anti-knight plus the phisto ring to restrict box 5 in the past, but I thought the use/effect of geometry in the other boxes of the grid to make deductions about the nature of box 5 was unique and a cool way to think about the ring. I hadn't considered or thought about this concept before and I think it was a cool revelation to discover during the solve.

I thought the 10 and 12 sum cages (but especially the 10-sum) that intersect the ring were also very nice because they played into the same geometry that restricted box 5, but used logic separate of the ring itself.

This puzzle was very fun and entertaining, and I somehow feel like I have a deeper understanding of the phistomefel ring and the cells that AREN'T in the corner squares or ring. I'm not really sure how to articulate it, but I thought the use of cells OUTSIDE the ring to restrict the ring itself was very interesting and made me think about that geometry from a totally different frame of reference.

Thanks for sharing, and great job setting this puzzle!

Even better than the sequel! The 10 cage was the icing on the cake.

-What do you mean better than the sequel?

Took me about half an hour.

Not counting the two to three days I was just staring at it in total bewilderment, of course. ;-)

That was sublime! The idea behind the break-in was really clever. The mid-solve logic was also intriguing and inspired me to make a puzzle based on it. Thanks for the lovely puzzle :-)

Probably one of the coolest break-in I've ever encountered and analyzed, the amount of "aha" moments in this one is quite remarkable, and another cool thing is that the path just somehow became really smooth after all those works. A hidden gem there:)

I am glad I got to solve this before Cracking the Cryptic featured it on YouTube! Great first feature.

Brilliant concept and execution! Thank you.

Very nice! There is one lovely but rather difficult spot and from then on the logic flows very nicely :^)

When you know the trick behind the puzzle, it still poses some challenges, especially some Knight's move magic, but it solves smoothly. I was curious to see what you did with the trick you found and I have to say that was cool. Thank you, PotatoHead21!

What an amazing break-in! Very difficult to spot, but really elegant once you find it. The rest of the puzzle flowed very smoothly after the break-in.

Brilliant and beautiful logic, did not yield its secrets easily, but very satisfying once it did :-)
