Get Sandwiched

(Eingestellt am 14. Juni 2021, 14:30 Uhr von bigger)

No trial and error is needed to solve, but this does include some very challenging logic.

This idea comes from Richard. Technically speaking, sandwich should be between 1 and 9. I don’t want to confuse future me with the same variant name as sandwich, so verb form.

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 6 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 2x3 box.

Digits outside is smaller than its right/below but larger than its left/head digit. All possible clues are given. X means none

Let’s X a whole side.

It’s a little hard, so what if, there’s no specific direction. The digits outside is simply in the middle place. In other words, the digit outside has a same difference with the two adjacent digit in the respective row/column.

These puzzles are made by Old Miles from China. Too bad 9X9 get really crowded, so 6X6. It’s a little hard now to keep track of all the ideas. We just recently found that arrows are as overused as 4 cell clues variant. It’s really hard to find a new variant in those structure. Outside clues are truly the most easy to think variant.

Lösungscode: Forth row first one to third(18 digits)

@SudokuExplorer Thanks, returning to the puzzle with this understanding had me finish the third grid in just a few minutes after restarting. I agree, these puzzles are very nice.

@Bigger I certainly don't want to stop you from posting your puzzles. I read the description for "Difference with the x-th" and misunderstood the last paragraph as being concerned people would abandon the puzzles due to not understanding them, which I thought was because so few of them get solutions submitted. That was my mistake, and I apologize.

Great puzzles! I really liked the concepts and the solve paths were really enjoyable too, thanks! :-)

@DiMono: In the third puzzle, the numerical clues outside the grid are the arithmetic means of their neighbouring cells. For example, a 4 clue outside the grid means that the 4 in that row/column could have neighbours {2,6} or {3,5}.

I've finished the first two, but I don't see how to begin the third. Here are the rules as I understand them:

Puzzles 1 and 2: A digit outside the grid is the center cell of a 3-cell thermometer that increases away from the clue. Thermos in the same row or column may overlap (i.e. a 25 clue could be 1256). X means no such thermos exist. All possible clues are given.

Puzzle 3: A digit outside the grid is the middle of a 3-cell thermometer in either direction. Thermos may overlap (i.e. a 25 clue could be 32156 or 1256). X means no such thermos exist. All possible clues are given.

Also, I think you'll get more solves if you submit one puzzle at a time. Some of your submissions have multiple 9x9 sudokus that have no connection to each other except that they use similar rules, and you have to solve all of them in order to register a solve. That is an unreasonable requirement for a single submission. Give us one puzzle at a time, once or twice a week. And include links to solve online, since that's how most people want to solve while on the internet ;)

Bigger: If you check some of my previous puzzles, you'll know why. Anything that is concerned with solution code or what people expect is really not my priority. And I really don't want more solve. It just means more attention which I certainly don't want any. I don't want anybody to give me stupid suggestions or copy the same idea with different words without any twist. I'm already on the brink of not sharing any puzzles here. Please don't give me more reason to give up.
