Organized Chaos

(Published on 3. November 2026, 18:06 by berdy)

This puzzle is significantly less chaotic than a typical chaos construction!

Rules
Place the digits 1-9 once in each row and column.
Region construction
Divide the grid into nine regions of nine cells each.
Every region contains the digits 1-9 once each.
All regions are orthogonally connected and have the same shape and orientation.
Circled digits
A circled digit is equal to the number of cells of its own region in its surrounding 3x3 neighborhood, including itself.
Toroidal
The grid is toroidal, cells on opposite edges of the grid (e.g. r5c1 and r5c9) are considered orthogonally adjacent.
This applies for region construction and circled digits.
Region borders
A thick line between two cells is a region border: the two cells are in different regions.
German whispers
Adjacent digits along a green line have a difference of at least 5.
Thermo
Digits along a thermometer increase from bulb to tip.

Q; the same orientation means - No mirror allowed AND no rotation allowed or only Mirror image excluded?

Berdy: A; no mirror and no rotation-- translation only

Now I know every nonomino shape that can tile a 9x9 torus without rotations. Still can't find the right one for this puzzle
