Compass Construction (Pentominoes)

(Published yesterday, 12:18 by Myxo)

This puzzle is part of the puzzle pack Chaotic Construction by the Sudoku Skunkworks. Please check it out!

Rules:

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into regions of 6 orthogonally connected cells each, such that every cell is part of exactly one region. Place the digits 1 to 6 exactly once in each row, column and region.

Compass: A digit in a cell with an arrow indicates the total number of cells belonging to the same region as itself in the direction of the arrow.

Killer Pentominoes: Divide the non-arrow cells into pentominoes, such that each pentomino shape (FILNPTUVWXYZ) is used at most once. Each pentomino is contained entirely within one region. No two pentominoes have the same sum.

Example:

SudokuPad - Penpa+

Solution code: the digits of row 6 from left to right, along with a "-" for each region border

Very nice, and not too tricky once I got the hang of the rules.

@dumediat
Thanks for the explanation! I interpreted "direction of the arrow" to be limited to the row/column of the arrow so that's where my confusion stemmed from.

Fantastic puzzle!

@Tyro533: The compass rules take some getting used to. For the arrow in r2c3 in the example grid, view the arrow as sitting on the border between rows 2 and 3. It is pointing up, so it indicates how many cells are in the same region as r2c3 that are above row 3, including itself. There is a 5 in r2c3, so there are 5 cells in that region above row 3 (r1c1, r1c2, r1c3, r2c1, and r2c3). The sixth cell in the region (r3c1) isn't counted because it's below the arrow.

I'm a bit confused by the arrows in the example.

The rules as i'd interpret them do not work for any arrow but the one in the region with the blue pentomino.

For example, how can there be a 6 in the field of the arrow in the region of the orange pentomino if the direction of the arrow points right at the grid border?
Even if you'd interpret "the cell of the arrow" as the one where the 5 is (i.e the one that the arrow points from, not the one that contains the arrow) , this still would not work.
