Chaos Construction Meta Rules Series (2) - Binary Whispers

(Published on 4. November 2026, 00:00 by Phistomefel)

This is the second installment of the series and requires more rule deductions than the first part. Here are the rules:
  1. Regions. Divide the grid into 8 orthogonally connected regions. Regions may wrap around the grid’s edges, both horizontally and vertically. Each row, column, and region contains the digits 1 to 8 exactly once. Some region boundaries are given and have to be respected.
  2. Arrows. The digits along an arrow sum to the digit in its circle.
  3. Binary Whispers. The digits 1 to 3 are small and the digits 6 to 8 are large. Any two orthogonally adjacent cells separated by a region border must contain one small and one large digit. This includes cells at opposite edges of the grid, since the grid wraps.
The puzzle is also available online:
CTC-App with test grid
CTC-App without test grid
The first link includes a second grid for experimenting with the rules. It contains no clues. For the solution check to work please erase any digits you have entered in the test grid. Have fun solving!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Added a second link without test grid, added rule regarding given region borders, lowered expected difficulty.

The meta rule was immediately clear but the long arrow slowed me down for a while. Very nice. Thanks

This time I got it right and fast. Thank you sensei for this puzzle. I think it will be rated 1 or 2* diff by those who see the meta-rules quickly and 4* by those who don't. It's the point of this funny serie. So interesting.

Surprisingly, I found this puzzle easier than the previous 6x6 puzzle.

Just to clarify: The given dark lines are region boundaries, right?

Very interesting, was very fun. initially I was annoyed with having a test grid take up half my screen but it ended up proving very useful.
