Dot dot dot...

(Published on 23. October 2026, 22:23 by berdy)

This puzzle has so few rules, it should be easy to remember all of them…

This puzzle was inspired by Simon’s comments during his solve of Schrödoku…
Rules
Normal Sudoku rules apply.

Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Digits separated by a black dot are in a 1:2 ratio.

Not all dots are given…

For anyone who wants a direct nudge around the “devious twist”, feel free to open this hint :)

Okay, I now figured it out. Not sure wether I like devious twists like that.

Maybe as a more concise tip: Consider the wording here for „no negative constraints“ and whether it’s really worded like you‘d usually expect it!

If it’s about one sentence in the rules I clearly miss something (I’m not a native English speaker), and I’ll never know.

I set this puzzle with the goal of reaching what looks like an ambiguous ending. I promise if you look at both completed grids, one satisfies every sentence in the rules and one doesn’t :)

I can confirm this puzzle does have 2 solutions that fulfill all requirements. Row 2 can be (357492618)

That was a nasty twist at the end to find what was missing to get the correct solution.

Ah, I see. Only having read the comments. Fair - that is the only completely logical conclusion to draw from the rules.

I agree, I’ve spent half an hour figuring out what’s wrong with the „wrong“ solution and find it perfectly viable. The constraints are normal sudoku rules, normal kropkis and no negative constraint. What am I missing?

2 solutions and I really can't find what's wrong with "wrong one" (the one with 8 in R4C3)

If you believe you have two solutions, consider whether both of them fulfill every constraint in the rules :)

I appear to have gotten two solutions as well

Berdy: appear is the key word here :)

There seem to be two correct solutions with no way to deduce which is the "correct" one

Berdy: make sure you consider all the rules :)
