Controlled chaos

(Published on 21. October 2026, 16:00 by Artham)

The first chaos construction I made. I was quite worried but it turned out not that bad in the end :) I hope you enjoy solving it.

Fill the grid with digits from 1 to 8 so that no digit repeats in a row or column.

Within each outlined 4x4 square, starting from the circle, color a connected group of cells using only orthogonal moves. The resulting shape must not branch or touch itself.

The path and the leftover cells in the square form two separate regions in which every digit from 1 to 8 appears exactly once. The leftover cells are not necessarily all connected.

Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of all cells seen in that direction until hitting the first region boundary.

Digit in the circle must appear in one of the adjacent squares.

There was a problem with the solution checking. I changed the link to an older version with a more ambiguous way to state the rules, but the puzzle is the same. Please refer to the ruleset on this page as a reference. Sorry for that, I'll correct it when I can
