Two Villagers and a Werewolf (2T1L Modifier Cells)
(Published on 1. October 2026, 05:00 by tallcat)
This is the second puzzle that I submitted for Scojo's imposter contest and is set in the style of
ViKingPrime. Given their fondness for Two Truth and a Lie puzzles and modifier cells, it seemed logical to combine the two. I certainly did not realize how many specific modifier cell types there were out there - but the "werewolf" cells seemed to be thematically appropriate for a liar puzzle. Happy solving!
Normal Sudoku rules apply
Modifiers: Place WEREWOLF cells into the grid so that there is exactly one Werewolf cell in each row, column and box. Each Werewolf cell must contain the digit that matches its Box number (counted from left-to-right, top-to-bottom). The value of a Werewolf cell is unique from other Werewolf cells and is selected from the remaining digits within its box (e.g. if the digit 1 in Box 1 has a value of 4, the digit 2 in Box 2 could have neither a value of 2 nor 4).
2T1L: Each of the below standard clue types have Two Truths and a Lie. Each occurs exactly three times in the grid with exactly two appearances of the clue being correct and the other being incorrect.
-
Whisper: Neighboring values on a green line must differ by at least five (Note: for a whisper line to be incorrect, only one of the pairs has to be wrong)
-
Renban: Cells along a pink line form a set of consecutive, non-repeating values in any order
-
Cages: Values within a cage sum to the given number in the top-left corner
-
Kropki Pairs: Black dots separate two cells where one is double the value of the other [1:2]. White dots separate two cells with consecutive values
-
XV: Values of cells separated by an X sum to ten.
Values of cells separated by a V sum to five
-
Even Cells with a grey square have an even value
-
Counting Circles: A circle around a value counts how many times a cells contain that value
Note: There are three white dots, three black dots, three X and three V (one of each set of three is a lie)

Solution code: Row 5 left to right (9 digits, no spaces).

Nice one! This puzzle becomes a lot easier once you realize the circles are counting values, not odd values.

Thank you very much for creating and sharing this brilliant gem. Normally I don’t like to solve a liar puzzle (too complicated for my poor old brain), but this one was too good to be ignored.

Probably a bit harder/trickier than what a ViKingPrime liar puzzle usually feels. Some funny steps in there! Thanks :)

Brilliant and incredibly smooth liar puzzle. And great idea to use VKPs werewolf rule with that.

Every time a setter makes a liar puzzle, the world becomes a little bit better. Thank you for doing your part, this was fabulous.
