Edit: This puzzle was broken when first published - apologies to solvers who attempted that first version. The updated fixed puzzle has a slightly different solve path, but many similar ideas. Let's just pretend that was deliberate to help justify the title.

This puzzle began life as my response to Scojo's setting prompt from the 12th of September, for which the wheel spun Skyscrapers and Indexing. I only realised after formulating my ideas that the ruleset on which I'd settled was much closer to "Hit Points" than Indexing. Whoops.

Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.

From the perspective of a clue outside the grid, a digit in its row or column is:
• 'Seen' if it is larger than all other digits between itself and the clue;
• 'Hit' if it is the digit N in the Nth cell from the clue.

A "?" outside the grid indicates that the sum of all digits in that row/column that are Seen AND Hit is between 1 and 9 inclusive, and a "??" outside the grid indicates that this sum is 10 or higher.

Solution code: Row 6 (bottom), left to right

Thanks for the quick fix. Now it solves uniquely and even more smoothly than before.
